221B: Right here.

Sherlock lay on the couch with his knees tucked to his chest and his back turned towards the world. He did not say anything when John returned home from his date and feigned sleep when the other announced he was going to bed. But his brain was still very much awake. It had taken him two seconds to hack into his flatmate’s laptop while the other was out. Something had been bugging him for a while now.

His mind could not comprehend why John was so keenly searching for his life-partner and investing so much time in building a relationship with those women he barely knew. The doctor would write them sweet e-mails and send them witty texts. But they all left him in the end. And the taller man just could not understand why. In the detective’s eyes the doctor seemed like the perfect partner. Quiet, thoughtful, useful. And he had a whole lot of heart to give.

But why was John going through so much trouble of finding someone to share his life with? He could not understand why John was going out to see them, while Sherlock was right here for him. He would always be right here, even when John thought he wasn’t. Wasn’t that enough? He would be waiting right here, and he would always be.
